How do we Absorb Nutrients?

In simple terms, we have a long tube through our body – the digestive system, which breaks down the food, absorbs nutrients and eliminates waste toxins from all around the body.  If any section of this system is compromised, it impairs our ability to absorb nutrients and eliminate toxins.

The Digestive Process:

The mouth: The digestive process begins in the mouth. Food is partly broken down by the process of chewing and by the chemical action of salivary enzymes (these enzymes are produced by the salivary glands and break down starches into smaller molecules).

The esophagus – After being chewed and swallowed, the food enters the esophagus. The esophagus is a long tube that runs from the mouth to the stomach.

In the stomach – The stomach is a large, sack-like organ that churns the food and bathes it in a very strong acid (gastric acid). Food in the stomach that is partly digested and mixed with stomach acids is called chyme.

In the small intestine – After being in the stomach, food enters the duodenum, the first part of the small intestine. It then enters the jejunum and then the ileum (the final part of the small intestine). In the small intestine, bile (produced in the liver and stored in the gall bladder), pancreatic enzymes, and other digestive enzymes produced by the inner wall of the small intestine help in the breakdown of food.

In the large intestine – After passing through the small intestine, food passes into the large intestine. In the large intestine, some of the water and electrolytes (chemicals like sodium) are removed from the food. Many microbes (bacteria like Bacteroides, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella) in the large intestine help in the digestion process.

There are various factors that can inhibit absorbition:

1-    Ingestion of food void of nutritients

–      Food that has been heated over 45C has no enzymes and the molecular format of many of the nutrients has been changed so that they are unrecognizable to the body.  If starches are heated over this temperature they form a neurotoxin called Acrylamides.

–      when we eat food that is GMO it has no nutrient level left and is a blob of pesticides wrapped in a food looking package.

–      Irradiated food has been nuked of all nutritional value and is made up of exploded molecules that damage the cells of the body.

2-    Low Enzymes – enzymes are the main coders in our body, that tell all of the nutrients from our food where to go.  Without the proper enzymes we cannot break down or absorb nutrients properly.

3-    Low Probiotics – probiotics are the natural bacteria’s that exist in your intestine, to break down your food properly.  When they are low or out of balance ones digestion is extremely impaired.

4- Mucoid Plaque – When the body comes into contact with food that has been heated over 45C, or has been processed, or contains toxic chemicals, the body coats it in mucous to prevent the toxic effect from having an  impact on the body.  When this happens regularly, the mucous becomes cumulative and creates a rubbery coating along the walls of the intestines, this impairs the bodies ability to absorb nutrients.

5- Weak liver function – if the liver is impaired in any way, the body cannot produce enough bile to break down fats and proteins that enter the body, limiting their absorbtion.

6- Insulin resistance – if the pancreas is impaired from long term blood sugar instability, the cells cannot absorb the glucose and nutrients properly.

7- Adrenal Stress – when one is in any stage of adrenal stress the body is in emergency mode, not regeneration mode and therefore cannot absorb nutrients properly.  After being in this state for a long period of time the absorbtion ability is drastically compromised and may take some patience to heal.
